The Ozark Campus is locatedon I-40 between Fort Smith and Russellville, Arkansas, in the city of Ozark.The campus, which is more than 26 acres and includes a half-mile exercise pathand disc golf course, is located along Arkansas Highway 23 North in Ozark,Arkansas. The city of Ozark, with a population of approximately 3,500, islocated on the banks of the Arkansas River and surrounded to the north by theOzark National Forest and to the south by the Ouachita National Forest. Locatedto the west of Ozark is the city of Fort Smith, a commercial and industrialcenter for western Arkansas. Russellville, home to Arkansas Tech University'smain campus and an area of vigorous industrial development, is located to thesoutheast of Ozark on Interstate 40.
Position Summary:
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for theenforcement of traffic and criminal laws and parking regulations. This positionworks Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and an evening on occasion.This position is governed by law enforcement standards, state and federal lawsand institution policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patrols assigned areas to detect and preventcrimes, enforce traffic laws, recognize parking violations, issue trafficcitations, and identify safety hazards and violators.
Performs security checks of agency or campus buildings.
Conducts investigations of crimes, accidents, andreports incidents committed on agency or campus premises
Directs traffic during periods of high density tofacilitate smooth flow.
Arrests violators, writes incident reports, andtestifies in court, as required.
Responds to alarms, calls for assistance, checksfor locked or unlocked buildings and offices, as necessary, and assistsstranded motorists and others in need of assistance.
Monitors security and fire panel for security andfire detection, assists with checking the alarm systems and emergency powersupply, and inspects and maintains fire extinguishers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities:
Knowledge of traffic laws, rules and regulations,for security.
Knowledge of general law enforcement methods andtechniques.
Ability to direct traffic and to maintain order.
Ability to prepare reports of incidents andaccidents.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Minimum Requirements:
Must possess valid Arkansas driver's license.
Must possess a high school diploma orequivalent.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer bythe Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, or a similar academy,in accordance with ACA 12-9-106, or must have the ability to become certifiedwithin nine (9) months of hire.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAYBE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FORCERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONSREVIEW COMMITTEE.
PreferredQualifications:
Atleast two (2) years of experience in criminal justice or related field.
Certifiedlaw enforcement officer (including military police certification).
Experienceworking in a university setting.
Work Location, Environment, and PhysicalDemands:
SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., andan evening upon occasion.
Occasional travel and carrying and use of afirearm are required.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and demonstrategood physical fitness.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors, regardlessof weather conditions.
