Description
Job Summary: Assists the Pharmacist by filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal, topical and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Air Flow Hood; types labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties.

General Responsibilities:
Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff.
Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures.
Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
Assists in filling prescriptions.
Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Maintains Pharmacy Services in a clean and orderly manner.
Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations.
Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations.
Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available dosage forms for various age groups.
Compounded Sterile Preparations:
Demonstrates knowledge and skill ensuring that pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled and stored, and not outdated.
Ensures compliance with USP
Medium-risk compounding:
The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed.

Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual education requirements.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
Attends required staff meetings, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
